Offering shelter to victims of domestic violence and abuse
February is Teen Dating Violence Awareness and Prevention Month, a national effort to raise awareness about teen dating abuse. The Hope’s Door Love Shouldn’t Hurt program is joining this effort by hosting awareness events in schools across Westchester County. Take a look at all the amazing work our teens will be doing to spread awareness of this prominent issue:
Lincoln High School
Lincoln High School STAR club will be selling bagels labeled “bae-goals.” Each bagel sold will have a small sentiment attached encouraging healthy relationships, as well as a small blurb highlighting the warning signs of an abusive relationship.
Woodlands High School
Woodlands High School STAR club has organized a “purple out.” They have asked their classmates to wear purple in order to raise awareness and bring further attention to the one in every three adolescents who will be the victim of an unhealthy relationship before high school graduation.
Scarsdale High School
Students in Scarsdale High School STAR club will be joining forces with the school drama/theater club to perform a short skit highlighting the effects of dating violence in teen relationships.
Hendrick Hudson High School
Hendrick Hudson STAR club will be having a cotton candy and popcorn sale. Each cup will include a label with a saying, such as, “Is your relationship really poppin’?” and a list of appropriate and inappropriate behaviors to be aware of in a new partner.
