Offering shelter to victims of domestic violence and abuse
Hope’s Door joined with domestic violence advocates and others in late June to honor Gwen Wright upon her retirement as Executive Director of the New York State Office for the Prevention of Domestic Violence. In addition to her 20+ years with OPDV, Gwen served as Executive Director of the New York State Coalition Against Domestic Violence and was an early employee of Hope’s Door back when we were named the Northern Westchester Shelter. After her retirement event, Gwen expressed the following to those who had come together to honor her:
“I know that the work will continue in earnest and that each and every one of you will contribute to the liberation of women, girls, and men and boys, in your own unique way. I am proud of what I have accomplished over the years, but most proud of the work of OPDV. I can’t imagine a more committed and talented group of people to work with and for! … I am not sure that I am done with this work, yet, so here’s to seeing you in the next chapter of my life! You have each played an important role in my life and for that I will be forever grateful.”
